Interview with our Community Manager Flavio aka Shaaryn

Articles 09/23/2013

What's your job in the 4Story team?

I'm the Community Manager for 4Story. This means I coordinate the communication between our Community Management and Product team, but also between Gameforge and our voluntary helpers. My job is also to prepare events for the servers, publish news on the website and forward suggestions from the community.

How did you become a Community Manager?

Up until May 2007 I was one of Gameforge's voluntary helpers and worked as a team member for five years. After finishing my degree as an IT Engineer in Italy, I sent an application to Gameforge. In August 2011 I was invited to Germany for an interview. I was worried, because my English had become a little rusty, but it went well and now I'm here! I've been working at Gameforge as a Community Manager since November 2011 and I've never regretted it. Working here is fantastic!

What do you like about your job?

The best thing about my work is the close collaboration with my colleagues - they're great! Nowadays it's hard to find a company in which the work environment is so pleasant and so much fun. Even on stressful days my colleagues always manage to cheer me up. This is incredibly important in the games industry, especially if you're responsible for thousands of players. Because when you're happy, you're also productive.

What does your normal work day look like?

Every day is different and a lot of things happen in a short space of time, but I'll try to describe it. I usually arrive at the office around 9 AM. Then it's time to put on the PC, get some coffee (really important!), read some emails and answer the first questions. If I'm all up to date, I check out my forums (I also work on other games) and work on some tickets. Usually the day's first meetings are held around that time. If I've got time in between, I'll search the forums for your feedback or other important information. During this whole time I'm always available for queries from our team members in IRC.

Do you play games in your spare time and if so, which ones?

I love video games! I'm playing Aion at home at the moment, but in the past I've played countless other games. My favourites will always be "Neverwinter Nights" and "Ultima Online". I'm a big fan of RPGs.

Anything else you would like to tell the players?

There's so much to say, but I'll keep it short: I always try my utmost to make the game fun for you. When you really love a game, it's irrelevant how old it is. I can see this exact love in the community, which spurns me on to do my very best for you. It's not easy, but it's a job that I'm more than happy to take on and I don't want to let you down. Your gaming fun is so important to me.
