GUIDE IN SOLVING THE PROBLEMS
This is just few bugs/problems for what I’ve heard, so this won’t help everyone in solving troubles. I was looking for solutions over the Internet, and don’t reproach me for copy/past… This is just try to help people to not leaving game because of bugs what can be fixed.
1. Problem with downloading new patch
First make sure maintenance is finished. If maintenance is done, and server is ready, you try to download new files and all is fine till some % of downloading… After a while you get message you are not able to download files.
Downloading is stopped due to lack of space on partition of your hard-disk.
Find partition where 4story files are (default is game get place on your C: disk), and delete some files you don’t need (do not delete 4story files). Point is to make enough space for new files what you need to download. When you made it, start game again, and if downloading finish successful, you are ready for play.
2. Game won’t load
2.1. Update Client Failure
When you receive message “You have failed to connection to the server” or screen when you start game where should write offer for items of the week, with “Navigation to the webpage was canceled”, then most likely the problem is related to your internet connection, or rather, 4Story's connection to the internet. If your internet is working and you are able to use other internet applications, then it is suggested you check your firewall or internet security software (Windows Firewall for those who don't think you have one installed). Also, if you are on Windows Vista or Windows 7, make sure you are running 4Story as Admin and possibly try different compatibility modes (XP for Vista users, XP or Vista or Win 7 users). This message is displayed when the client cannot establish a connection to the server, and when you see that the 'page cannot be displayed' for the update client news, it shows that not only can the update server not be reached, but neither can the standard 4Story server (which contains news information).
If you can't seem to connect to the update server but are seeing news information, then it's clear your internet connection is fine. You should next check your firewall or internet security software for ports that might have been blocked or connections that were rejected. The news loads in a small frame that uses port 80(for web pages essentially) but the actual update server and update information is sent through a different port. Port 80 is unlikely to ever be blocked due to it being used by web browsers to view web pages, but another port might if your firewall or internet security software sees it as a threat.
For both situations, if you reach a point where no solution has been found, try resetting your modem AND router and reconnecting to your network/internet. Also you may try disabling your security software as some software may conflict.
2.2. Cannot Find Files
For some users, the following message may appear:
“Cannot find 4Story client files. Run this application in the 4Story folder please.”
If this is the case,
simply right-click on your 4Story desktop shortcut and select 'Properties' from the menu. Next, in the 'Start in' text area, change “C:\Windows\Fonts” to your 4Story game folder (C:\Program Files\Gameforge4D\4Story\) (default). You can save time by copying the text from the 'Target' text area above and pasting the folder without '4Story.exe' at the end.
Of course that may not always be the case. And if it is not, then I would aim for first going to your 4Story directory (C:\Program Files\Gameforge4D\4Story\) (default) and trying to run the .exe file there. If you still receive the same message, it may be related to another conflicting program.
3. Bug Report screen
If you see screen after your game window mysteriously closes that shows some basic Computer Information, provides a short message and gives you a button to “Submit a Bug Report”, simply click the button and reload your game. If of course this same message keeps appearing after you do the same thing in-game, I'd suggest you stop.
Guess, it is problem for Win7 users, and as I’m not using that operating system, don’t know what can be problem.
4. C++ Runtime Error
This doesn't seem extremely common, and frankly I think it is related to older computers (mostly XP based). This game was created using a programming language called C++. For this language, the lovely boys over at Microsoft provide a runtime library to help handle some of the functions, headers and overall, programs that might be running on this language.
The first thing to do and try is downloading the C++ Runtime Library for your computer. The 2005 version is what I believe is acceptable for this game to run, but installing later versions can't really hurt. And while it may be unrelated, updating DirectX and your graphics driver maybe prove helpful in some cases.
Here are some download links for the above mentioned fixes:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86) / (Click here for x64)
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86) / (Click here for x64)
DirectX End-User Runtime (9.0c)
There are also other downloads and versions for the Visual C++ Runtime Libraries, such as Service Packs, but you can also find these on the Microsoft website if you would like to try any of those in your search for a solution.
Aside from the attempts to fix problems with the C++ Runtime Library, you may want to try a re-download and install of the game itself as well as look at what you were doing when the error occurred (and avoiding it).
5. Frozen game/computer
I haven't really seen this, but I have heard of the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) while running 4Story. If you do indeed see the BSOD (google it if you want a picture to explain), then most likely it wasn't related to 4Story specifically. This screen is usually more for hardware failures, including the drivers that work with the hardware. The first guess is the graphics given you received the BSOD while running a video game. If the drivers are up-to-date, then you might want to think about compatibility. There are some graphic cards that just aren't compatible with all games, as well as some versions of the driver. If you have an alternative card, try it. If not, try a different driver version.
Aside from the BSOD, it may occur for some users that their game just simply freezes, with no error (although the TLoader.exe error should occur), or perhaps the entire computer locks up. If such a thing happens, and you of course exit and disable all other programs, a PC locking up (but no BSOD) might be caused by a programming bug, which might be related to similar problems of the TLoader.exe error, just more severe on your particular PC. In which case, there is little that can be done…
6. Hack-shield errors
I’ll always suggest you first do everything what you can before uninstall and delete 4story folder, and install game over again…
Sometimes, trying to find a fix taking a lot more of time then installation again…
Anyway, below are some links for hack-shield troubles, so fallow the instruction:
Walk around for hack shield 10a01
Fix for two Hack-shield errors
Wish you won’t need this, but if you got the problem, hope this will be helpful!
Good luck and enjoy the gaming.
Regards.
There is a bit difference...
If they don't have files to delete, then just replace some program on other place...

@ PrincessCruises - Wow total respect at you for putting this post together. Its very rare and really nice to see one single player putting that much effort into a post to help other players with their technical problems. I do not know if it is 100% accurate, but to be honest I don't really care - just a pleasure to see someone with unselfish actions trying to help other people in this game.

+1 and she has my vote lol, team should give 25e euro coupon for such guide!!
That's why i wrote to delete files what they don't need... I didn't wrote to delete programs...
There is a bit difference...
If they don't have files to delete, then just replace some program on other place...
well other than music/movie files the majority of space on a computer is taken up by programs, i think a gamer is more likely to have 2GB of old games to delete than 2GB of word documents to delete lol...
problem with just deleting programs like zoello said (yea i realise its problematic if cant uninstall from control panel) is if you only delete the main files you are still left over with whats in the cache/system files that if you delete programs like this often it can eventually lead to conflicts/slowdown/errors whatever.
all i mean that if this is a guide you should be specific if your telling someone to delete files.
I've got a bit free time, wasn't work on my last exam
Second...
For small updates, like usual maintenance are, no need for making a lot of space on disk... Will be enough delete just files from Downloads folder (I know many not cleaning it for months and they are useless), that is not uninstalling programs, and that is reason why you couldn't read word what "missing". So ye, there is no need for uninstalling programs... Also, I can't say people to uninstall any application, 'cause I have no idea what programs they have installed. Every program is installed with some use, and that won't give me right to tell anyone what he should uninstall...'cause of that I was write to remove some program on other place, which, again is not uninstalling... Programs can be installed on any other partition where you have space, don't have to be located on C: disk.
Doesn't means if something is faster solution, that is better solution! Mostly that faster solution will give bigger problems later...
Real gamer, if he have a lot of games, he will know what he must do, he won't need this guide.
Conflict and problems can exist only in case if person decide to delete files from game (application) which he will re-install later on same place... That's why you can read "do not delete 4story files"...
@Titan
If missing just one word (uninstalling added on deleting) in all guide (if you read all) is the only problem, well, I'm happy... Will add that one word for what you stuck, to not confusing you anymore.
But also, I'm not sure why you trying so hard to explain me what you mean... I understand clearly your point, but I know why I didn't put how you says... This guide is not for real gamer, you or me... This is little base tech problems, for people who dunno how to fix it, on one place. Also, this is open thread, so anyone can add own suggestion, fix, or problem... If you have an idea, you want to fix something I mistake, well share it on best way... Write "edit that part..."
'Cause of reacting people like you do, that's why I asked few times Game Team to publish this... Guess they hadn't time, so that is reason why this guide is signed by myself. I don't need any reward, prize... Was hopping that you, and all rest people who know something about tech problems can continue this guide, and stop forcing players to leave game for all good.
It does not matter will you like it or not, will you flaming and insulting, if this will help anyone at the end...
Best regards.
(even it is just the original post, copied and pasted ) and still keeping this active for further comments and further suggestions to problems?
just a suggestion, becuase after a few new threads this may end up getting lost within the forums.. and alot of people might miss this help guide, or not find it, expecially those unfamiliar with the board eg: new starters etc.
